“Unspent Love” Letters

.

Grief, I’ve learned, is really just love. It’s all the love you want to give, but cannot. All that unspent love gathers up in the corners of your eyes, the lump in your throat, and in that hollow part of your chest. Grief is just love with no place to go.

Many of us may have experienced the pain of things that have been left unsaid or that have been discovered to be worth saying only after we have lost someone. Writing letters to those who we have lost can ease this pain, but what do we do with those letters after we have written them. They may be too personal to share, but then again, they may be a source of comfort or relief to those with similar experiences.

Blue Skies will catch and post as many “unspent love” letters as are sent to us at BlueSkiesRIgrief@gmail.com.  Depending on contributions, Blue Skies will gather a team of editors from LitArtsRI.org and periodically craft a booklet which might be used in grief and bereavement care.

Please use first names only. Each letter will be posted under a first name. Do not give information which might uniquely identify individuals. Please do plan to share anonymously. Share your kindness. Share your grief. Share your anger and share your regrets. And, by speaking with a sincere heart, you will be sharing your love too.
